Ticos love jokes, and a good one gets around quickly. This one begins: “An old man marries a young woman.” This must be the beginning of hundreds of Latino jokes.
After he marries her, he discovers she is not interested in doing any homework. When he comes home for lunch, he gets love instead. One day he comes home for lunch and sees his bride sitting on the stove. “Sweetheart,” he exclaims, “What on earth are you doing?” “I am warming up your lunch” she says.

This is not too far from the truth. My bicycle mechanic get involved with an 16-year old and got her pregnant. He already had another wife and child. Every time I go into the shop, he tells me if his new in-laws had not favored his relationship with their daughter, he could be doing time for two to six years.
If the girl is under 18, she is jail bait. Tico men push this boundary as hard as they can.
